Of Wars And Rumors of War ...

Dr. Rusty Shackelford at the JawaReport files this one under "Alarmist news from unreliable sources, but alarming enough to keep an eye out." I agree with the assessment.

From Jawa Report:

" ...A Pakistani journalist says that his sources in al Qaeda and the Taliban are claiming that nuclear material has already been smuggled across the Mexican border into the U.S. and that an operation bigger than 9/11 will be carried out during Ramadan--which begins later this month.

Hamid Mir, who is the only journalist ever to interview both Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri, claims that he learned this information on a recent trip to Afghanistan last month.

So, the guy does have a track record, but considering that he got the information from al Qaeda and the Taliban....well, these guys aren't exactly reliable sources. So, yeah the headline is alarmist, but blame my editor and not me ..."

"...In addition, Mir also claims that 300 suicide bombers are now in Kabul and will begin attacking during Ramadan ..."

Islamofascists talk big, but sometimes they get lucky. I hope they also understand, loud and clear that any WMD casualties on US soil will result in a parking lot solution -- an effort which both conservatives and libs would howl for. (The unity after 9/11 may have been undermined, but a fresh attack is likely to make strange but enthusiastic bedfellows of partisan enemies) The sudden blossoming of parking lots would likely be the least of our enemies' problems, though.

.
At this point, although our volunteer army's taken down two countries directly, and three others by osmosis (Libya, Liberia and Haiti), we're not really serious at this point. With sufficient provocation, that could change.

So, here's what I'd like to pass on to any real and would be jihidi's: "Sure. Go ahead. Tick off basic, everyday Americans in a way we can't ignore. Get CPA's, and lawyers, and teachers, and nurses, and construction workers and waiters and librarians mad enough to do something. Incense postal workers -- now there's a great idea!

Get American chemical and electrical and mechanical engineers aroused out of their peaceful employment. Anger a computer programmer or two, or millions. Inspire our own mainstream preachers and priests to comment passionately at the pulpit. Motivate English lit and political science majors to learn to handle a gun and wish it were an automatic, and let that fury leak over to our passionate political writers, and our nation's flagship media outlets ..."

It's happened before. Al Quada and their buds may be focused on Vietnam, but there are times in US history when we have not two-stepped but marched to a lethal cadence. The passengers of flight 93 were far from paper tigers.

While Bush has always maintained correctly that we're at war, he's managed to shield the nation from feeling the effects of that war on an everyday basis. If that shield is stripped away, Islamofascists and the nations and the moderates that support them will begin to understand the fury and the resources that the US really has available to throw at them, and they are resources we've scarcely tapped so far.

Incidentally, here's some dates:

Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset on Sept. 22nd,
Yom Kippur begins at sunset on Oct 1st.
Ramadan begins Sept 24th. and ends on Oct 24th
Myself, I always look forward to Halloween, which in some circles seems to be no longer limited to Oct. 31st.

Will follow.
